mojo

Day 4 of no Diet Coke. What does this mean? Well, I’m sticking to my fast. I’m praying a lot. I have a headache that won’t go away. I am at a loss for words. Okay you can stop doing a double take. Yes, I said I was at a loss for words, or lack of ideas should I say, to write for my blog post today.

So….

I turned to Twitter, that ever so valuable tool of life, and asked my tweets for suggestions of blog topics for today.

Drumroll please….

MOJO or lack of it or how to find it if it is lost

That’s what I’m thinking about today. Mojo.

Urban Dictionary defines “mojo” as…

N.
1. Self-confidence, Self-assuredness. As in basis for belief in ones self in a situation.
2. Good luck fetish / charm to bolster confidence.
3. ability to bounce back from a debilitating trauma and negative attitude

On that note….here is how I find my mojo after I lose it, which happens a lot….

I listen to music.

If I’m sad the iPod is playing soothing music. Mozart, Beethoven, Correlli, and various Christian artists usually do the trick.

If I’m happy, fun music. Sometimes I need to really get grooving with songs from the B52s, Black Eyed Peas, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Flo Rida, The GoGos (yes I am dating myself here), Steve Earle, Tyler Hilton or The Cure.

If I’m just completely lost, no music. I need to hear myself think.

I read poetry.

Favorite mojo inspiring poets include Sharon Olds, Mark Strand, Carolyn Forche, Rumi, William Stafford, Toi Derricotte and e.e. cummings.

I read the bible.

Usually Psalms and Proverbs get me going.

I eat.

Cookies and anything with chocolate helps get the creativity going.

I play with my boys.

They do and say the funniest things. Really. They give me a purpose and having a purpose fuels mojo. At least for me.

I get on Twitter and have fun exchanging tweets with friends.

Best tweets to follow that help build my mojo include:

@jjkehm66 smart, athletic and good dad/friend

Now I follow 2000 tweets so this is just a sampling. These are the tweets that are almost always tweeting when I need to find my mojo, need to vent about something that is keeping my mojo away or just need to laugh or learn. So far, Twitter has been my best source of finding the mojo when it has taken a hike.

I also use Facebook but that seems less engaging in times of mojo deprivation. With Twitter it is like instant inspiration, laughter, answers, advice and yes, sometimes frustration. But frustration can be a very mojo empowering thing. Think about it. You get frustrated with something or someone on Twitter or Facebook or in life and you have all the penned up frustration and nothing to do with it.

Use that frustration to create something!

So if you have lost your mojo and can’t find it, try any of the above that help me. Just remember to get off Twitter every once in a while so you actually have time to use your newly found mojo to create something, okay?

Share with me how you find your mojo when it has taken a hike and you think it is never coming back…okay? Leave a mojo comment!

For not having a lot to say and a terrible headache, your post was great! Very encouraging. thank you!

DawnFebruary 26th, 2010 at 5:22 pm

Many thanksfor the freebie!

Well done with the coke. My brother used to drink only diet coke – no tea coffee etc, just the coke and when he stopped he was as sick as a dog and about as cross and irritable as a human could be! Do you think you’ll take it back up after Lent?

PegFebruary 26th, 2010 at 5:37 pm

Thanks for sharing your fabulous goodies! I don’t tweet, but taking a break and playing with my boys usually helps my mojo a little if it’s lacking :)

AnnOminousFebruary 26th, 2010 at 5:48 pm

Thanks for the freebie. I’ve got a headache, too, and I’m wondering if it is diet coke withdrawal….

What do you do when your mojo is taking you in one direction, but you need to go in a different direction to do your part of a collab kit?

And oh yea, go Mark Martin!!!

cathyFebruary 26th, 2010 at 5:57 pm

The headache is why I said be sure to have lots of aspirin ready:)

Cindy RitterFebruary 26th, 2010 at 5:59 pm

Cyndi your words always give me a lift… this was exactly what I needed to “hear” to find me mojo.. I have tried several of the things you mentioned above, but I am more than willing to try some of the others, I think what I need most is to Step outside my box… so thanks for the ideas on finding the lost mojo and thanks for the cool freebie! I love this kit!

KaraFebruary 26th, 2010 at 6:07 pm

Kudos to you for no diet Coke. I drink regular coke like there is no tomorrow. I have tried time and time again to stop, but it is SO hard. great blog post! And good luck with days to come

Thank you!

LaineyFebruary 26th, 2010 at 8:15 pm

I tried posting to your wall yesterday but it crashed … now I’m in minimalist mode — yeah, giving up cokes… colas are known to cause bone density loss in women who drink 4 or more a week….2– several folks i’ve known who were heavy coke drinkers developed kidney stones… another not-so-fun condition, 3) the headaches are probably caffeine withdrawl, eat more chocolate or drink a bit of tea and to ease the pain then gradually cut back the chocolate and/or tea… Hugs, I have faith that you can do whatever you set your mind to do… Hugs, Lainey

LaineyFebruary 26th, 2010 at 8:16 pm

P.S. I find new age music inspirationsl

Burgh BabyFebruary 26th, 2010 at 8:20 pm

Twitter is fantastic for finding a little mojo, except for those days when everyone seems to be in a bad mood. Fortunately, it doesn’t happen all that often.

Michelle (lvdesigner)February 26th, 2010 at 8:57 pm

Thank you so much for your post and goodies! Giving up stuff we love or are addicted to seems beyond difficult. I remember my wonderful Aunt had a massive addiction to Dr. Pepper. One day she added up how much she spent on it and decided enough was enough! She quit cold turkey too and paid the same prices you mentioned. She made it though and so can you!

A couple of her tips were 1. Drink LOTS and LOTS of water with lemon to clean out your system faster. 2. Drink some kind of caffinated drink like tea to ward off or help with the headaches/shakes. 3. Keep yourself active so as not to dwell on what you are craving.

Hope the tips help! God Bless!!!

AmyFebruary 26th, 2010 at 9:24 pm

Awww…thanks for finding me inspiring. I’m inspired that you gave up Diet Coke. :)

crlinFebruary 26th, 2010 at 10:08 pm

Woo Hoo!! You are hanging in there with the no diet coke!! Hopefully the headaches will begin to stop very soon!! Your body will get used to not having the coke and will stop the headaches! For me the mojo only comes when i have a deadline to meet and I have to get something done! Not much help!! Hugs!!

MandakFebruary 26th, 2010 at 10:13 pm

Great post Cyndi! Happy to see that I made your list, and glad to know I have put a smile on your face on occassion! Have a good diet-cokeless Friday

ScrappinMicheleFebruary 26th, 2010 at 10:30 pm

Thanks for the freebie.

When I need to find my mojo, I also will put my iPod on and just put it on shuffle and see where it takes me. I will also start looking at some of my old scrapbook pages or books. Looking at some old issues of CK will make me laugh and inspire me. And if that all doesn’t work, I look for challenges that will force me to do something outside my “normal.”

I’m doing the ADSR5 to try to spark my mojo now and it seems to be working.

Carol ArnoldFebruary 27th, 2010 at 12:40 am

For someone who is at a loss for words, you certainly managed to find a few! Tweeting must really work! I don’t tweet…don’t need another addiction! When I loose my mojo, I usually go online and spend some time on crafty sites in the forums and galleries. Or I just wait it out!

Thanks for the freebies today!

Carol ArnoldFebruary 27th, 2010 at 12:42 am

Oh, I forgot to congratulate you on 4 whole days! So proud of you! Have been praying for you!

BettyFebruary 27th, 2010 at 3:22 am

Thank you very much!!

HummieFebruary 27th, 2010 at 1:32 pm

Wow…you be popular! lol…I wish I had the time to do posts like these….I don’t…. and I get very few comments…even with freebies or videos….so it’s discouraging.

I’m trying to follow you again on Twitter…but you filled my tweets so much I couldn’t find anything else before.

I was going to do a post on mojo too…but mine will be short…as soon as I find time to do it….someone helped me find my mojo.

CreativeBusyHandFebruary 27th, 2010 at 5:42 pm
