Boys
Since the freebie today is a part of the “Boy Oh Boy!” FREE Download a Day kit at Divine Digital, I decided I would share what I have learned from being a mother of two boys:
Matchbox & Hotwheels cars will end up in your bed, the toilet, the kitchen sink, under the seats of the van, in the hot tub, in the bathtub, under all furniture, in the dog and cat water bowls, in the fridge, in the freezer, in your shoes, in your coat pockets, in your pots and pans. Basically everywhere you live and go you will find them.
Potty training is a neverending event. First they poop for candy, then they poop for cars. Then once they know how to poop on the potty they will refuse to do it unless you give them a really big car or truck. They will pee everywhere but in the toilet–on the wall, on the curtains, on the floor, on the toilet paper roll, in the tub, in the sandbox, at the playground. EVERYWHERE!!!
They will use any physical means to get the toy they want from their brother. Pulling hair, head banging, punching, screaming, pinching, biting–you name it, I’ve seen it.
Lincoln logs, legos and tinker toys will never exist in their original container. They will often be seen flying through the air, aimed at you or their brother. Sometimes Daddy.
Setting the table for dinner means making room for the cars and trucks on the table. Which end up on the plates, in the milk and no doubt lead to a tantrum when removed by a mean parent.
You will learn to watch NASCAR without complaint. Same with Boomerang, Cartoon Network and DVDs of nothing but cars, trucks and things that explode.
You know that playing Candy Land will end up in a wrestling match and that it will always end up with both children screaming and hitting each other.
You will know the name of every car on the rode in front of you, next to you and yes, behind you. They will know their friends by the car their parents drive.
A crash on NASCAR or accident shown on the evening news is something to be cheered and celebrated.
They will constantly have their hands in their pants and talk about poop.
They cannot see a patch of dirt without seeing a construction site for the fleet of diggers. Your yard will become a plethora of construction sites and gardens? forget about having one. Either the boys or the dogs will dig them up for pleasure.
They will go head first down the slide. And you will learn not to panic.
Have a prescription for Valium and take it on days they have hit you, destroyed things, made you deaf with their screaming and throw sippy cups at your head.
Love them. Teach them that hands are not for hitting and hope they learn. Never give up believing that they will one day sit down and do crafts with you, perhaps even use some glitter or a glue gun. And never stop dreaming that one day your bathroom will be clean and that in the middle of the night you will not step on a matchbox car and scream so loud that you wake them up.
On that note….here is the freebie for today:

Great post Cyndi!
Thank you!
thanks very much.
I appreciated your post! I have three sons plus a step-son that also lives with us. I loved your entry about potty training. We are going through the “pooping for candy” with the youngest one right now. The oldest one is into Star Wars and the youngest likes trains, so we spend our time looking at animated clones shooting at each other and the local Norfolk Southern track.. No NASCAR, though. I’m grateful for that. Thanks for the freebie!
I can relate. I have seven sons…and two grandsons (so glad someone else gets to do the potty training!!!)
Thank you for the freebie!!
Thanks Cyndi! We had 2 girls and 3 granddaughters… no boys, here… Girls are not all timid little creatures; some are rather adventuresome.
As a mom of 2 boys also, I really enjoyed your post! No NASCAR for us, but legos EVERYWHERE!
Thanks, Cyndi – enjoyed reading your post!
No experience with little boys here – I have two daughters and three little granddaughters – both my sons-in-law are great men!! Although, “girls” do have their moments especially during the teenage years.
Thank you for the extra gift.
Thank you.
thank you again for this wonderful part
I just somehow knew I never wanted to have a son!!
Thanks you, Cyndi!
Diane M
thanks for the great add-on!
Love the dirty hand print!!! Thank you sooooooo much!
Thanks Cyndi for the wonderful story on your 2 boys and as the saying goes boys will be boys, cars, trucks, planes, dirt thanks for sharing
Thanks so much for your freebie add-on! I have one son and 2 grandsons, so have an inkling about the truth of what you are saying! Gotta love em though! They do make life exciting! And yes, they do always seem to have their hands in their pants…or up their nose!!! EWWWWWW!!!!
Love reading your postings. So much fun and thought provoking.
I have 6 kiddo’s… 3 boys and 3 girls. The girls are almost as bad as the boys! lol Oh the rude and crude things that they teach each other… and all the hard work. But then they reach their 20’s and call you on the phone to shoot the breeze with you and it is soooo worth it! Thank you for the add-on to the kit.
Thank you – for the freebie and the amusing observations . I teach and I know many little boys like that but I have to say mine was nothing like and he still hates being dirty despite training as a vet LOL
Thank you for all the wonderful freebies! I have two grown boys and two grandsons. Boy themed kits are my favorite.
Quite worth it to come here for the commentary. Thank you.
Thank you Cyndi. It was a pleasure reading this latest blog entry! LOL I thought I was the only one who stepped on Lego blocks and matchbox cars. But don’t fear even moms of daughters also step on Barbie purses and shoes in the middle of the night and well you know what happens then! Of course nothing beats “fishing” Ken’s shoe out of the VCR! Hang in there, it changes and then you’ll have to be up for driving lessons and prom dates with green or purple hair! LOL
Thank you so much for this Freebie. I want to let you know that I posted a link to your blog in CBH Digital Scrapbooking Freebies, under the Page 8 post on Feb. 20, 2010. Thanks again.
So funny….gotta love boys! This kit looks so fabulous, and of course I absolutely adore your part of it! On my way to find you on facebook.
thanks so much for the post today, I laughed cause it is so true. I have 2 boys, 8 & 3 and they are so messy, I have OCD and I think they make all these messes to drive me crazy some days. And as for the potty, I don’t know if they ever out grow it…I think hubby still misses the toliet, LOL
Enjoyed your download and your description of life with two boys. You made me remember and laugh. My children are now 48 and 50.
Thanks for your extra goodies
Great story of your daily life. I have no children, but I have a brother 8 years younger. I remember all that when I was a kid. Thank you for the extra freebie.
Thank you for the great freebies. My sons were typical boys and it was hard to appreciate all the little “moments” when they were growing up. They are now 29 and 33 and as I look back I realize that they were the light of my life. I am now living those “moments” again in slow motion with my grandchildren and I have to say that grandchildren are indeed the reward for not strangling your kids. :0)
My boys are 36 and 39 and I remember all those days. I am so blessed that they have grown to be good men with their own families. Not sure how I got so lucky with them and their sister, but I did. Enjoy the days when they are little, they will come to an end, but those memories will be with you forever (even when you are trying to erase certain parts of them!).
Thanks so much for this awesome freebie! I have two boys and two girls and each has their own positives and negatives for sure!
Loved your post today! I have 2 boys and I smiled the whole way through! Love all your designs!! Thank you for always being so generous of heart!
So enhoyed your post today. Having a little boy myself I could sooo relate to the hot wheels and matchbox cars everywhere! Thank you for the freebie, it is greatly appreciated!
Thanks for the cute freebie. Loved your post! Reminds me of when my kids were younger!
This is soooo Cute…Thank you
Great post, Cyndi! I so remember those days, feeling like I would need a rubber room before I ever got them grown! But my youngest son, who turned 29 yesterday, has grown into a godly young man who nearly causes my heart to burst with joy! Hang in there, and learn to shuffle your feet in the dark!
I so love your site, your creativity, with all the details and will visit often. Thanks for the freebie
Thanks so much for another fabulous kit! And for sharing your experiences with your boys. I have two boys and two girls and unfortunately, much of what you have said is not limited to just boys!!
Wow! Your post on the boys really brought back memories of when my son was younger. He’s almost 16 now, so the Lego days are gone. But, boy howdy, do I remember them! May I share a saying that I made up when he was little that became my mantra? Here it is… “We do not hit, we do not throw, we do not tell the Mommy “no.” Both my kids have that one tattooed on their brains, I’ve said it so many times. In fact, when I say, “what are the rules?”, this is what they instinctively recite. I fully expect my grandchildren will be reciting that one one day. LOL Hugs and good thoughts coming your way from a fellow mom.
Thanks Cyndi! What fabulous pieces! And your blog post had me laughing my butt off
Thanks so much! It’s so hard to find great scrapping stuff for boys! This is wonderful
Thank you, Cyndi, for these wonderful freebies!
It’s always a pleasure to read your blog, thanks!
hehehe, boys! Thanks for the goodies, love the quote
Thank you. Love it!
I love the sentiment and have the perfect picture in mind. Thank you for sharing your talents = )
Back again to tell you what I learned this week about little boys, matchbox cars and toilets … did you know that matchbox cars will actually flush down the toilet? In quantity too ? Me either but I found out they do, at least 4 of them… EEEKKKK … dang and the plumber was just here a few days ago!
Thanks so much!
Couple of things … tried to leave a comment on facebook but it crashed…so just think of the health benefits of not drinking cola .. cola has been linked with bone density loss in women who drink 4 or more colas a week….two … is digitals going to put up Help Haiti kit? I’ve been checking every day for a link but haven’t seen one yet.
Thx!
thank you
I love that quote on the freebie — boys leave muddy prints on our hearts. Too cute. Thanks for the freebies!
Thank you so much, I so can relate to your post since I also have two boys too… . Love those freebies also.
