Weeding
Weeds are flowers too,
once you get to know them.
~A. A. Milne

Anyone who knows me knows that I was not blessed with a green thumb. I am not a gardner and I’m not the owner of beautiful plants inside and outside my house. I don’t like bugs. I don’t like snakes. I don’t like dirt under my fingernails. I don’t like gardening.
But even more, I don’t like weeds…
Weeds get in the way of a lot of things. Not that I have beautiful gardens or container gardens. But I cut the grass. And when I cut the grass I hate seeing all the weeds growing in my yard. Perhaps if I took the time to learn about weed control I wouldn’t face the wild weeds that live in my grass. Considering my husband is a former Golf Course Superintendent, learning about weed control shouldn’t be that hard!
In a way, my life is kind of like that…lots of weeds growing wild that I need to learn how to manage.
I need to start weeding.
In thinking about how I “Hold Onto Purpose Everyday” I can’t help but think about how my life is like the grass in my yard. It is green and it grows. Sometimes I let it grow too long and cutting it is even more of a chore than it would have been had I taken care of it. From a distance you’d never know there were as many weeds hovering, waiting to grow and fester, in my yard. But up close, like when I cut the grass, I see the weeds. Like the saying, “You can’t see the forest for the trees,” perhaps you can’t see the grass for the weeds.
Perhaps all the weeds of my life, spiritually and physically, are preventing me from my purpose.
So I’m gonna get weeding. Gonna get dirty. Gonna get rid of the weeds taking over my life, getting in the way of my purpose.
The scary thing is that I know I’m gonna meet a lot of snakes in the process of weeding. I hate snakes. Ever since I saw “Raiders of the Lost Ark” as a kid and witnessed that scene where Harrison Ford is lowered into a pit of snakes, well let’s just say I have developed a strong fear of snakes. I have drilled it into my boys brains that if they see a snake they are to SCREAM, RUN & NEVER PICK IT UP AND PUT IT IN YOUR POCKET. I have a nephew that is known for having creatures in his pockets. A little garden snake is still a snake. I have no desire to meet one when I go to do laundry.
In the bible, God had the beautiful Garden of Eden. He had Adam and Eve. He had a snake (that’s the bad guy). I bet there weren’t any weeds in that garden until Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit. Perhaps weeds are another way of looking at sin, at what happens when we don’t trust in God and go our own way, doing all the wrong things.
Could it be that sin prevents the yard of our lives from being green and beautiful?
I think so. Gotta start weeding…
How about you? Do you need to start weeding, too?
Let’s get dirty together!

Crabgrass can grow on bowling balls in airless rooms, and there is no known way to kill it that does not involve nuclear weapons. ~Dave Barry
I always think of my sins when I weed. They grow apace in the same way and are harder still to get rid of. ~Helena Rutherfurd Ely
They know, they just know where to grow, how to dupe you, and how to camouflage themselves among the perfectly respectable plants, they just know, and therefore, I’ve concluded weeds must have brains. ~Dianne Benson, Dirt, 1994
A man’s children and his garden both reflect the amount of weeding done during the growing season. ~Author Unknown
You must weed your mind as you would weed your garden. ~Astrid Alauda

LOVE the quotes; especially comparing sins to weeds. Oh, yes, love the kids too!!! Many thanks.
Thank you for the adition to the kit. Jouney of Hop is adding up into a beautiful kit.
Thanks for sharing your three extra freebies to this daily download they are gorgeous
Cyndi, your blog always makes me smile. I love the quotes.I too am the grass keeper in our family.I love cutting the grass and how it looks afterward.I will never look at weeds again without thinking of the weeds in my life.We are blessed here in the south with Dandelion. Now they say there are a lot of uses for this weed.Tea and green salad are two,but I have yet to see the benefits. It’s a weed but a smart weed. When they see me coming, they all yell to each other “duck”,then when I pass they rear their yellow heads and laugh.
Thanks for the freebie addon to today’s download.
I have a weed COLLECTION!!
Thanks for the lovely goodies!
I love reading your blog. Thanks for sharing the freebies, you are very talented. and my yard is full of weeds too!
What an awesome post! Couldn’t agree more about weeds being compared to sins!
Thank you so very much for your inspiring words!!
You hit the nail right on the head or rather the weed right on the roots.
Also for the wonderful goodies!
I used to love to garden, there is something so satisfactory about creating order from chaos in the flowerbed! There is always satisfaction in creating order whether it’s a closet, basement, toy cupboard, sewing room, computer files or in our life. Relationships, committments, chores, or whatever, if left unpruned and untended take a relationships et al into areas you never meant them to be in. A little constant, careful (ie full of care) pruning and weeding keeps everything manageable, totally enjoyable and fulfilling. also, the flowers grow even bigger and brighter!
Thanks so much for today’s download. I very much enjoyed reading your post but please keep in mind the definition of a weed: “A plant that is growing where you don’t want it to.”
Beautiful! Thank you!
This is an awesome post today! Like Faye, I also find those dandelions “laughing” at me. I like this new way to look at all the weeds in my yard =) and as I think about how many I mowed down just today I’m reminded how much easier it would have been had I taken care of those weeds before they got so big. Wow. So thank you not only for your gifts of digiscrap, but for your gifts of encouragement and inspiration.
Be blessed!
As I was weeding my garden and yard on Monday, I had some of the same thoughts running through my head. Thanks for sharing yours!
Thank you so much for this post. I want to let you know that I posted a link to your blog in CBH Digital Scrapbooking Freebies, under the Page 6 post on May. 08, 2010. Thanks again.
Is Divine Digital crashed today? It doesn’t seem to exist on the internet anymore.
Based on the quote from A. A. Milne, I take it that the best way to weed is to not simply get rid of all the weeds but rather explore them and get to know them better. Perhaps, as you’ve already kinda said, this is the best way for everyone to get closer to their goals and dreams. As for snakes… uhhh… I don’t even wanna look at ‘em. XD Anyway, great post. Very thought-provoking. I wish you the best on this goal towards your purpose. Have a nice day.
PS: The designs look amazing. LOVE that style! <3
Yes, our site as well as several other digital scrapbook sites that use the same server are all down…we are looking into it and we will get it back up asap! And then I can post some freebies!
Cyndi – any insight into what is happening at the Divine Digital site? I have not been able to get in, for several days. Is it just me?
We’re all getting withdrawals, when is Divine going to be back up and running again? No one is blogging either so we all feel left out of the ‘loop’ and would sure like updates on a projected ‘back-to’business’ date. Bottom line is we miss you guys and we’re nosy. LOL
Yes the site will be back up and we’re working on putting the rest of the “Journey of Hope” downloads together on a blog….stay tuned and thanks for your patience!
Thanks for the update. I see Divine has Royanna’s downloads posted now and will have the rest of the links posted this coming Monday. That’s wonderful news. I’m sure looking forward to it. I didn’t get your blog-posted Day7 because the link was broken when I tried to download it late on the 8th/early on the 9th. Just mentioning this because I’m hoping you will include it when the links are reposted. I hate missing any of your designs from the daily downloads…they are so nice.
Thanks for all the stuff you have and do for us.

My father-in-law, a WWII vet and recent widower, spent Memorial Day with us. He likes to help us around our house and yard (he’s a young 78!), and we had a lively discussion about weeds. We both agreed they were tenacious, and tricky, even diaolical sometimes! After a pause, he said he was thankful for weeds. How so? He said weeds gave him work to do, gave him vitality, he even went so far as to say he might be dead if it weren’t for weeds keeping him busy and on his KNEES! I hope to use his thoughts to give me a new perspective on weeds!
Our servers went down when our host switched ownership, they have to rebuild the site and we’re working on getting it up and running asap. Keep coming here as I will update as soon as we are back with a live site…
